Tourist Visas
Australia provides a number of tourist visas for those who wish to visit Australia for short periods of time to tour and/or holiday in Australia. Most tourist visas are valid for a maximum period of 3 months from date of entry and are normally valid for 1 year from time of approval/grant.

Tourist visas do not allow holders any work or employment rights although it is possible to seek employment opportunities on this type of visa. It is illegal for Australian employers to engage the services of overseas workers who do not have a lawful visa that allows them to work.
Most Australian visitor visas are now electronic and therefore the holder does not need to have any stamps inserted into their passport. The e-visa is tagged to the individuals passport and is identified at immigration clearance when the holder arrives in Australia.
It is possible to extend a visitor visa but application to do this must be made before the current visa expires. This can be done in most cases by visiting the DIAC website or by attending the local DIAC office in the nearest state capital city.
